As every year, the Golden Globe ceremony honors the best actors, actresses, directors, and filmmakers in the film industry. This year, Demi Moore, Zoe Saldana, and Fernanda Torres win their first Golden Globe.

A major first for Demi Moore

While for many actresses the Golden Globes are a first this year, this ceremony is nothing new for Jodie Foster. Indeed, the 62-year-old actress won her fourth Golden Globe. Best Actress in a Drama in 2008, Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy in 2012, and Best Supporting Actress in 2021, she was finally crowned Best Actress for her role in the miniseries True Detective. In 2013, she received the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award, which honors actors and actresses for their entire career.

Although this is not Jodie Foster’s first speech at the Golden Globes, it is Demi Mooreโ€™s. After 45 years in the industry and two previous Golden Globe nominations, the American actress received her very first award at the age of 62. She was named Best Actress in a Comedy. It was for her portrayal of the lead role in The Substance that she won the award. “Iโ€™m in shock. Iโ€™ve been doing this job for a long time, more than 45 years, and this is the first time Iโ€™ve won anything as an actress.” The filmโ€™s lead actress thanked Coralie Fargeat, the French director behind the film.

A win for the internationalization of cinema?

With ten nominations at the ceremony, Emilia Perez by Jacques Audiard dominated the evening, winning four trophies. But the actress playing the supporting role also made a splash. This was Zoe Saldana’s first Golden Globe. The American-Dominican actress was awarded Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Rita in the French film. She stated that her “heart is full of gratitude” and thanked her family and all her co-stars. Emilia Perez also marked a victory for French cinema. The film won Best Comedy, Best International Film, and Best Song (created by French artists). The feature was selected to represent France in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Oscars. Meanwhile, the lead actress, Sofรญa Gascรณn, spoke up for the transgender cause: “You might put us in prison, you might beat us, but you will never take away our soul, our resistance, our identity.”

This is the big surprise of the 82nd Golden Globe ceremony :Fernanda Torres (I Am Still Here) won the Best Actress in a Drama Film award. The 59-year-old Brazilian actress triumphed over favorites in this category, Angelina Jolie (Maria) and Nicole Kidman (Babygirl). The Brazilian actress plays a widow who fights relentlessly against the Brazilian dictatorship in 1971. Already thrilled to be nominated, the winner confessed she hadnโ€™t prepared a speech. She ended up paying tribute to her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, who won the same award in 1999. “My mother was in this Golden Globe room 25 years ago. This film shows us how itโ€™s possible to survive in a time of fear.” Her victory reflects the evolution of the Golden Globes, which have become deeply international since 2021.
